Suicide prevention information

The month of September is also known as National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. Suicide Prevention month helps promote resources and awareness around the issues of suicide prevention, how you can help others and how to talk about suicide without increasing the risk of harm.

Suicidal thoughts can affect anyone regardless of age, gender or background. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people. It most often occurs with someone suffering from a mental illness, such as anxiety or depression.  There are many effective treatments available that can help individuals increase coping tools and manage mental health concerns that may lead to an increased risk of suicide.

Counseling and Psychological Services wants to offer some useful tips on how to recognize the warning signs of mental health concerns or suicidal ideation along with resources that are available to you on campus and in the larger community. Always remember that CAPS is here to support YOU.
