Student Job Title: On-campus: Honors Office Assistant

The Dorothy and Bill Cohen Honors College is seeking an Office Assistant who will staff the main reception desk and provide general office support. Office assistants are official greeters who assist students, staff and faculty to use the resources of the Cohen Honors College and the Dean鈥檚 office. They assist with event planning, recruitment, and scheduling advising appointments as needed. The assistant must have strong oral and written communication skills and exercise discretionary judgment regarding student information and executive-level communication.

WHEAT Board Game Night

Come warm up with us while playing board games in the RSC! WHEAT is hosting a board game night in the RSC room 257 on Thursday, January 31st, from 3:00 to 4:00 PM (just before the Honors Hour). Snacks and hot chocolate will be provided, feel free to come and go. Want to know about future honors events sponsored by WHEAT? You can to receive notification and reminders of events through emails and text messages.

Cohen Honors Outstanding Student Award 

Apply for the Outstanding Cohen Honors Student Award by Feb 11

Applications sought for the 2019 Outstanding Cohen Honors Student Award. This award recognizes a high-achieving senior leader who takes on challenges and demonstrates commitment to academic excellence in honors. A student may win this award only once.

The application deadline is 5 p.m. Monday, February 11.  To review the eligibility requirements and application process, go to Outstanding Cohen Honors Student Award.

This award is sponsored by Dorothy and Bill Cohen. Recipients receive a signed image by astrophotographer Ken Naiff and recognition on a plaque in the college.

Student Volunteer Opportunity

Safe Streets is a Wichita area non-profit that works to prevent substance abuse among high school and junior high school students. Each semester, instructors implement a substance abuse prevention program called Botvin鈥檚 Life Skills Program in local Wichita schools. In this program, young adults act as instructors so that the high school and junior high school students can connect with someone close to their own age.

This volunteer opportunity requires 2-3 hours of service per week. Volunteers will gain valuable resume experience by becoming certified Botvin鈥檚 Life Skills Instructors. Mandatory training is on January 28th so interested students should contact Alissa Bey, Community organizer at Safe Streets, before this date.

Horizontes Project - The Color Line Opening Reception

You have seen and heard about the works of the . Responsible for bringing the  to Wichita, the Horizontes Project, 鈥渋s an artist-driven, community engagement art project that aims to connect two underrepresented neighborhoods in north Wichita, the predominantly Latino NorthEnd and historically African American Northeast neighborhoods, which are both physically and psychologically separated by large grain elevators along the industrial corridor.鈥 Come explore the project and artists at the  at the Kansas African American Museum during Final Friday.
