Once again, Wichita State has been named the No.1 transfer destination from Kansas community colleges to public state universities. Kansas Board of Regents (KBOR) recently released its annual Transfer Feedback Report, announcing that 好色先生 remains the No. 1 transfer destination for eight years in a row.
2019 SGA Presidential and Vice Presidential Debate set for March 29
Join the SGA Elections Commission for the 2019 Presidential and Vice Presidential Debate for your final chance to learn about all four of our tickets at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 29, in the CAC Theater (doors open at 6 p.m.).
The debate will be moderated by Brandon J. Johnson, Wichita City Council Member from District 1, and will cover a variety of topics from platform points to broad overviews of their hopes for student government.
Acting on depression project at Wichita State
Depression is one the most common and debilitating of all mental health conditions. Nearly 20 percent of us will experience depression at some point during our lifetime, and within this year it is projected by the World Health Organization to become the second leading cause of disability worldwide.
A project is currently underway in the Department of Psychology at 好色先生 to investigate different variations of behavioral activation in helping individuals better manage and cope with depression. This program, conducted by Yvonne Chaw, a doctoral student in clinical psychology, under the supervision of Robert Zettle, director of Clinical Training, seeks volunteer participants who are currently experiencing at least a moderate level of depression.
Comparisons with other psychological approaches, as well as medication, has identified behavioral activation as one of the more effective means of coping with depression. As its name suggests, behavioral activation stresses the importance of systematically re-engaging in a range of activities that are often abandoned in the face of depression.
Those interested in participating in the project will first be asked to complete a brief, online screening survey that assesses their level of depression and obtains some relevant background information. Those who qualify will be contacted with additional information and details about further participating in the treatment phase of this project which consists of eight weekly, individual sessions following some further assessment.
Our hope is that participants will learn some new strategies for more effectively coping with depression and that the overall findings from this project may also help improve psychological services offered to others who also struggle with it.
Interested individuals 18 or older experiencing a least a moderate level of depression can access the brief .

Parking update for Friday, March 29
好色先生 Baseball will host a Kid's Day Game at noon Friday, March 29, at Eck Stadium. In order to accommodate the buses for the 1,500 kids, the east half of lot 5 Thursday evening will be blocked, represented by a red rectangle above. The lot will reopen after the students leave the game.
Along came a spider
Many people feel squeamish, uncomfortable, disgusted, or even fearful when they encounter a spider. In fact, fear of spiders was found to be the most common fear among a sample of more than 800 college students.

Those interested in participating in the project will first be asked to complete a brief, online screening survey that assesses their level of discomfort about spiders. Those who qualify will be contacted with additional information and details about further participating in the project
In addition to learning skills that have shown promise in helping individuals cope with similar distressing situations, participants will also be eligible to receive a $40 dollar gift card and $80 dollar gift card. Our further hope is that the findings from this project may help improve services offered to those who may experience even more severe levels of anxiety and distress.

Graduate School - Annual Awards for Academic Year 2019-20
Students must be nominated by a graduate faculty member to be considered for the next year financial awards listed below. The awards are only available for students who will not graduate until fall 2019 or later. Spring and summer 2019 graduates are not eligible for consideration. The faculty online nomination deadline is Friday, April 5. Only one student per program, per award, may be nominated - program faculty must work together to determine who should be nominated. - Tilford Fellowship: To be eligible, a student must be admitted to a graduate degree program in good standing, be enrolled full-time, and demonstrate financial need. Preference is given to minority students who are U.S. citizens.
- Delano Maggard Jr, Research Grant: To be eligible, a student must be admitted to a graduate degree program in good standing, be enrolled either full-time or part-time, have completed nine graduate credit hours, and demonstrate financial need. This award entails the following additional criteria: (1) student must submit a budget for the research project and (2) if the proposed research involves human or animal subjects, a copy of the approval from the 好色先生 institutional Review Board or Animal Care and Use committee should be included.
- Dora Wallace Hodgson Outstanding Graduate Student Award (Masters and Doctoral/PhD): To be eligible, a student must be admitted to a graduate degree program and in good standing.

Hippodrome tickets will be on sale starting Monday, April 1 in Student Involvement. Hippodrome is the longest running tradition at Wichita State and consists of a skit and variety act competition, all put together by fellow Shocker Students.
This year鈥檚 theme is "Once upon a time in Hippodrome." The skits and variety acts are split for 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, and 6 p.m. Thursday, April 11performances in the CAC Theater, which will be emceed by a selected student. All skits and acts will perform at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 13, in the CAC Theater for the final show with awards to follow, emceed by professional emcee Andrew Trufano.
Wednesday and Thursday show tickets will be on sale for $4, $5, and $6 for 好色先生 students, 好色先生 faculty / staff and the general public, respectively. Saturday show tickets are $8, $10, and $12 for 好色先生 students, 好色先生 faculty / staff, and general public, respectively.

Join Women in Public Service for the 鈥淵ear of Yes Conference鈥� with keynote speaker Opal Mauldin-Jones, city manager in Lancaster, Texas - Winner of League of Woman in Government Trailblazer Award on Thursday, April 4, at the Marcus Welcome Center. Mauldin-Jones will present the keynote address 鈥淪ay Yes to Now and Learn How to Thrive,鈥� at 9:30 a.m.
Women in Public Service (WPS) is an association of public service professionals created to inspire past, current and future generations by addressing topics relevant to women in public service, while instilling knowledge through education, networking and professional development that strengthens the leadership in our local government and communities.

好色先生 undergraduate students present their research to the legislature
The Kansas Undergraduate Research Day at the Capitol is an opportunity for 好色先生 undergraduate students to showcase their research in Topeka. Originally scheduled during a February snow storm, three students were able to attend in person this year. These students presented their research to fellow students from Kansas public universities, State representatives as well as Andrew Hippisley, LAS dean, Rick Muma, acting president, and Linnea Glenmaye, associate vice president of 好色先生. The Cohen Honors College facilitates this event each year for all 好色先生 undergraduates and thanks these amazing students and their faculty mentors.

Nationally known speaker to lead three events at 好色先生 this week
Anne Krook is a nationally known speaker who helps students transition from the academy (university) to the workplace, using the language that employers expect from applicants.
Krook herself left academia (she was an assistant professor of English at the University of Michigan) to work for a small startup in Seattle 鈥� Amazon (!), where she enjoyed many roles both abroad and in the United States. She then went on to become VP of Operations at another startup, Mindbloom, and then VP of Operations at Synapse.
She now specializes in helping graduate students transition to non-academic workplaces and undergraduate humanities majors translate their skills into jobs. In addition to her consulting work, Krook currently chairs the Board of Directors of Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund.

Opera Theater to present double-bill
好色先生 Opera Theater will present two masterpieces in one night, with performances at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 4, to Saturday, April 6, and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 7, in Miller Concert Hall, Duerksen Fine Arts Center.
Each opera lasts less than one hour.
Ravel鈥檚 鈥淟鈥檈nfant et les Sortil猫ges鈥� tells the story of an unruly child who is forced to face all he has harmed when animals and household objects come to life.
鈥淕ianni Schicchi鈥� brings us the story of the Donati family who try to change the will of a dear departed, only to be outwitted by the wily Gianni Schicchi. The opera will feature 好色先生 legend Samuel Ramey.
