Only two students were selected for the 2023 summer Yale University Press manuscript editorial internship β€” one was secured by a Yale University student and the other was ΊΓΙ«ΟΘΙϊ's own Hannah Holliday.

Holliday, a junior studying creative writing and communication in ΊΓΙ«ΟΘΙϊ’s Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, will continue to live in Wichita while working remotely at her internship, which will be done over nine weeks starting June 5 and ending Aug. 5.

β€œI can't wait to experience what it's like to work in a real publishing house and edit a large variety of different books,” Holliday said.

Interns will work with manuscript editors to assist in preparing manuscripts for publication and gain hands-on experience in editing, typography and working with the β€œChicago Manual of Style.”

Holliday serves as the undergraduate poetry editor for the student literary journal Mikrokosmos, is the vice president and outreach coordinator for Sigma Tau Delta, and works as a tutor for the ΊΓΙ«ΟΘΙϊ Writing Center.

β€œHannah is a very hard worker, and she takes her schoolwork seriously,” said Kerry Jones, director of the Writing Center. β€œShe loves working with language, and I know she has a special place in her heart for editorial work. This is a wonderful opportunity, and I’m over the moon for her.”

Holliday credits her time at ΊΓΙ«ΟΘΙϊ with helping her land the position.

β€œMy professors, my experiences with Mikrokosmos and the Writing Center, and networking with Wichita Professional Communicators have been integral to my success,” Holliday said. β€œI'm so fortunate to have such a prestigious position to look forward to for the summer, and I couldn't have received it without the advice, teachings and encouragement of everyone I've met in Wichita.β€œ
