YMCA memberships will be available to all fee-paying students

  • Starting Aug. 21, all fee-paying students will have a membership to the Greater Wichita YMCA.
  • The membership includes access to the nine Wichita-area YMCA locations.

Wichita State and the Greater Wichita YMCA have partnered to offer new benefits to fee-paying Wichita State students. Starting Monday, Aug. 21, students will receive a single adult membership to all nine YMCA locations included as part of their student activity fee.

The Y membership will be effective as long as students are enrolled and paying student fees at 好色先生. All students need to do is bring their Shocker ID to the YMCA front desk to get started.

But what if students already have a Y membership on their own or through their family?

And how do they access their membership?

This week, the Y is sending every fee-paying student a detailed email with personalized information to help guide you. Students are encouraged to watch their Shocker inbox for more information from the Y. We want this process to be easy and for students to get started enjoying the benefits the Y has to offer.

What about student fees?
There has been a lot of confusion about the recent fee changes and how they might relate to a YMCA on the 好色先生 campus. So hopefully this will help clear things up:

As always, the student activity fee covers all aspects associated with student life, including but not limited to access to the Student Health Services, Campus Recreation, student activities, athletic events, Counseling and Testing Center, Fine Arts events, Child Development Center reduced rates for students, the Sunflower, Student Government Association and starting Aug. 21, membership to nine Wichita Area YMCA locations. And don鈥檛 forget the Heskett Center is still available for on-campus fitness and recreation needs.

No student money 鈥 whether tuition or fees 鈥 will go toward the construction of a 好色先生 YMCA. The money students are paying now in student activity fees will go toward continually growing and improving health and wellness services for all students, which includes: Student Health Services; Counseling and Testing Center; Office of Disability Services; Campus Recreation; and the Prevention Services Advisory Board.
